Amarinth Supports National Bird Box Week

Amarinth's commitment to the environment isn't only with our journey to become a net zero company and to deliver the most energy efficient pumps. We also like to promote work in our local environment for our staff and to enhance local wildlife as much as possible.

As part of our Christmas hamper, we gave away a locally made bird box to every staff member, and as it is National Bird Box week we thought we'd find out why they are so important and where our boxes came from.

As building, agricultural development and infrastructure projects steadily reduce natural habitats bird boxes are becoming of increasing importance to the future of our wild bird population. Both bird numbers and species numbers are decreasing across the UK and it is vital that we all start playing a role.

Here at Amarinth we sourced a local bird box builder, who builds the boxes out of offcuts of wood and then sells them with all proceeds going to www.beehiveafrica.org, a charity which helps mothers and their children in Africa who have lost or who have had to leave home, it provides them with refuges so they can rebuild their lives.

Many of our new boxes are up and waiting for their first occupants, from back gardens here in Suffolk to as far away as Snowdonia. If you'd like to join this simple environmental revolution, there are many places you can build your own boxes, or buy them from similar charities, but we would urge you to consider getting one and having in your garden to help rebuild our bird populations. The benefit from the simple satisfaction and sense of wellbeing watching a young avian family grow is worth it alone.
