Amarinth extends critical pump lifespans across maturing oil and gas fields with rotatable pump strategy

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – 29th September 2026

Amarinth, a world-leading, net-zero designer and manufacturer of low-lifecycle-cost pumping solutions, has expanded its lifecycle asset management offering with a rotatable bare shaft pump programme for demanding offshore and onshore operations. Built on engineering expertise spanning offshore and onshore oil & gas, nuclear and renewable energy generation, defence, desalination, and process and industrial markets, the tailored service gives operators facing severe wear and evolving reservoir dynamics a cost-effective, plug-and-play alternative to complete pump replacements, dramatically cutting lead times and eliminating unplanned shutdowns.

The extended offering addresses a widespread challenge across mature oil and gas basins globally. As operational conditions evolve over multi-decade field lifespans, increased sand entrainment and aggressive produced fluids can subject process pumps to accelerated erosive wear. Traditional complete pump overhauls or total unit replacements often involve prohibitive capital expenditure, structural deck adaptations, and complex pipework modifications, frequently forcing operators into extended, costly maintenance outages.

Amarinth’s rotatable spares framework overcomes these bottlenecks through a circular, continuous-readiness model. By holding strategic bare shaft replacement units on standby, offshore and site technicians can swiftly swap out an eroded pump during brief maintenance windows. The decommissioned assembly is then returned to Amarinth’s engineering facilities for a thorough strip, detailed non-destructive testing and inspection report, and complete OEM refurbishment before rejoining the customer’s strategic spares pool.

The technical and commercial viability of this lifecycle model is demonstrated by a recent contract award from a leading North Sea operator of the Glen Lyon Floating Production, Storage, and Offloading (FPSO) vessel. Stationed 110 miles west of Shetland in the North Atlantic Ocean, the Glen Lyon serves as the central offshore processing hub for the multi-billion-pound Quad 204 deepwater redevelopment, covering the Schiehallion and Loyal fields.

Amarinth originally supplied bespoke API 610 OH2 centrifugal pumps for the FPSO in 2012 for produced water treatment and reservoir pressure maintenance re-injection packages. While the original pump architecture has operated reliably under arduous deepwater conditions, advancing field life led to elevated sand ingress within the produced stream, creating aggressive erosion.

Rather than committing to major capital replacements or disruptive platform modifications, the operator contracted Amarinth to deliver two new bare shaft API 610 OH2 pumps to establish an agile rotatable maintenance loop. Crucially, to deliver maximum economic efficiency and support sustainable circular engineering, the project directly incorporated the operator’s existing warehouse stock of operational maintenance spares, including mechanical seals and couplings. The operator supplied these inventory items to Amarinth for seamless integration into the build of the new bare shaft pumps. Amarinth subjected all client-supplied spares to comprehensive quality inspections, replacing any degraded wear components, such as gaskets and secondary seals, to guarantee complete OEM compliance, performance integrity, and long-term operating reliability.

Following the successful implementation of this initial project, the operator was very pleased with the outcome and the operational efficiencies achieved. Demonstrating strong confidence in the commercial and engineering success of the approach, the operator has now returned to Amarinth to implement the same rotatable bare shaft pump strategy across more of their pumps.

Oliver Brigginshaw, Managing Director of Amarinth, commented: “Operators worldwide are balancing the need to extend the economic life of offshore assets with intense pressure to control operating expenditure and lower lifecycle emissions. The challenges experienced on the Glen Lyon FPSO for example, where changing fluid compositions introduced severe sand erosion years into the equipment design life, are common across the global energy and process sectors. Our bare shaft supply and circular refurbishment programme gives operators a structured, low-risk mechanism to manage asset integrity. By rotating bare shaft assemblies and recertifying client-held spares inventory, operators can maintain uncompromised process uptime under severe conditions while extracting full economic value from existing assets. This approach proves that sustainable, circular engineering and operational resilience can go hand in hand across multi-decade operating lifecycles.”

The rotatable bare shaft pump and re-engineering service is available across Amarinth’s full portfolio of API 610 and ISO 5199 centrifugal pumps, as well as for many obsolete or third-party legacy installations requiring hydraulic or dimensional interchangeability.

Amarinth Pump Manufacturing

Amarinth is a carbon net zero organisation delivering world-leading expertise in the design, application and manufacture of centrifugal pumps and associated equipment for critical applications in many of the most arduous and hostile environments around the globe.

Founded in 2002, Amarinth has harnessed the skills, creativity and passion of people who have worked in the pump industry for decades, delivering bespoke API and ISO pumps primarily to the offshore and onshore oil & gas industries; nuclear and renewable energy generation; defence; desalination; process and industrial markets.

The company’s innovative approach, business agility and use of sophisticated computer applications enables it to deliver robust, reliable and sustainable pumping solutions on the shortest lead times in the industry.

• Process pumps – API 610, API 685, ISO 5199 horizontal, vertical and in-line bespoke process pumps, including ones that are hydraulically and dimensionally interchangeable with the former Girdlestone and other obsolete pumps.

• Skid packages and modules – Supplied with a variety of drives for applications including de-sanding, mixing, filtration and chemical injection and tailored for the oil & gas, water treatment and power generation industries.

• Condensate recovery – Cutting-edge design providing low NPSH up to 98°C with variable speed drives to reduce cycle time and lower operating costs, available in stainless steel, galvanised or copper tanks for light or heavy industrial uses.

• Seal support – Integrated pressurised and vented seal support systems designed and delivered to API 682 and ISO 5199 standards and specific site specifications and requirements, working closely with AES, Eagle Burgmann, John Crane and Protect System.
