Amarinth achieves world first as IECEx compliant mechanically sealed pump manufacturer
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – 5th December 2024
Amarinth, a world-leading, net-zero designer and manufacturer of low lifecycle cost centrifugal pumps and associated equipment, primarily for the offshore and onshore oil & gas industries; nuclear and renewable energy generation; defence; desalination; process and industrial markets, has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the world’s first IECEx compliant manufacturer of mechanically sealed pumps. This certification applies to the company’s standard range of API 610 and ISO 5199 products, underlining Amarinth’s commitment to innovation and industry leadership.
The IECEx certification, issued by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), sets stringent global standards for equipment used in explosive atmospheres. Unlike ATEX certification, IECEx mandates independent testing and certification, providing a single, globally recognised certificate with clear usage restrictions, and no differentiation by explosion risk zones. The IEC’s push to standardise compliance has driven increased demand for IECEx certified equipment, particularly non-electrical equipment, but sourcing pump remains a challenge as most manufacturers have yet to pursue certification.
Recognising this emerging market need, Amarinth took proactive steps several years ago to align its products with IECEx standards. Customer requests for IECEx certified pumps were increasing, prompting the company to undertake the rigorous certification process. This involved upgrading its ISO 9001 compliant quality systems to meet IECEx’s comprehensive requirements and ensuring compliance with additional ISO standards. An independent notified body reviewed Amarinth’s compliance and product technical files before awarding the final certification.
As a result, Amarinth’s products are now certified to ISO 80079-36 and ISO 80079-37, the key standards governing the design and construction of non-electrical equipment intended for use in explosive atmospheres. This achievement makes Amarinth the first IECEx compliant manufacturer of mechanically sealed API 610 and ISO 5199 pumps.
With this certification, Amarinth’s customers can confidently procure pumps that meet IECEx standards without the additional time and expense of project-specific hazardous certification and witness testing. This simplifies procurement, reduces risk, and provides greater assurance of compliance for projects requiring certified pumps for explosive environments.
Oliver Brigginshaw, Managing Director of Amarinth, commented: “Becoming the world’s first IECEx-compliant mechanically sealed pump manufacturer has been a challenging but rewarding journey, particularly as part of it coincided with significant global unsettlement and conflicts. We are delighted to offer our customers a fully certified range of API 610 and ISO 5199 pumps, ensuring they receive the reliability and efficiency they expect while avoiding the significant costs and delays of project-by-project certification.”
